The Burleigh Market fills the grounds of Burleigh Heads State School on the Lower Gold Coast Highway, at the corner with West Burleigh Road, about a three minute drive or a fifteen minute walk from The Village. It runs every Saturday from 7am to noon. Expect local fruit and veg, roasted coffee, fresh flowers, bakery stalls, plants and homewares spread across the oval, with buskers along the way. Fancy a warehouse feed? Burleigh Bazaar
A five minute drive inland at 18 Junction Road, Burleigh Bazaar is a permanent night market set inside a refurbished warehouse, which means it runs whatever the weather. It opens Friday from 5pm to 10pm and Saturday from 4pm to 10pm, with around eighteen food vendors doing smoked barbecue, meat buns and rotisserie, a bar with a wall of bourbon, live musicians and a kids’ zone. Parking is on and around Junction Road. It suits families early and groups later in the evening, and a couple of hours here is an easy way to round out a Saturday.
What is the original street-food market? Miami Marketta
Head six minutes north to 23 Hillcrest Parade, Miami, and Miami Marketta is the Gold Coast original. It is a covered laneway packed with global street-food vendors, a dessert hall, boutique bars and free live music, open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 5pm. Entry is free, and the whole space is undercover so it runs rain or shine. Street parking fills fast on a Saturday, so arrive early or plan a short walk in. Where do the farmers set up on Saturday? Palm Beach Farmers Market
Eight minutes south at Palm Beach Currumbin State High School, the Palm Beach Farmers Market runs every Saturday from 6am to 11.30am, rain, hail or shine. Between seventy-five and eighty stallholders bring fruit and veg, seafood, artisan bread, smallgoods and health foods, many of them certified organic or spray-free. It is the pick for a proper produce shop if you are self-catering at The Village, and there is parking on the school grounds. Get there early for the seafood and the sourdough, both of which guests keep mentioning, and bring a cooler bag if you plan to stock up.
Any market on a Friday evening? Sanctuary Markets
To round out the circuit, the Sanctuary Markets run on the Village Green at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, 28 Tomewin Street, about a ten minute drive south. They set up every Friday from 4pm to 9pm with international food stalls, local makers and live music, a relaxed way to start the weekend. Parking is at the sanctuary itself. It is family-friendly and easygoing, and because it runs Friday it slots in neatly before the Saturday-morning markets.
