Woke up to grey skies over Burleigh? A rainy day here is no write-off. From our front door on Park Avenue, The Village Burleigh puts six indoor and undercover spots within about eighteen minutes, from a warehouse food market to a cosy bakery and the cinema. Here is the wet-weather plan, all open and all dry.
Fancy a warehouse full of food? Burleigh Bazaar
Head inland a few minutes to Burleigh Bazaar at 18 Junction Road, about a five minute drive from The Village. This is a permanent night market set inside a refurbished warehouse, so the roof stays firmly over your head. Expect eighteen or so food vendors doing meat buns, smoked barbecue and rotisserie, a bar with a wall of bourbon, live musicians and a kids’ zone. It runs Friday from 5pm to 10pm and Saturday from 4pm to 10pm. Plan on a couple of hours, budget mid-range for a shared feed, and know it suits families early and groups later.
Where do you eat undercover on a wet night? Miami Marketta
A six minute drive north along the Gold Coast Highway brings you to Miami Marketta at 23 Hillcrest Parade, Miami. It is the original Gold Coast street-food laneway, fully covered, with global vendors, a dessert hall, boutique bars and free live music. Entry is free and no booking is needed unless you are a group of eight or more. It opens Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 5pm. Guests keep mentioning the undercover seating as the reason it works so well when the weather turns. Come hungry, expect to graze across a few stalls, and settle in for the evening.
Rainy morning? Settle in at Paddock Bakery
For a slow wet morning, Paddock Bakery sits in a heritage cottage at 20 Hibiscus Haven, Miami, roughly six minutes north of us. It opens every day from 6am to 3pm, with the grill running until 2pm and coffee, pastries and toasties after that. The old timber house and covered courtyard make it a genuinely cosy place to wait out a shower over a long breakfast. Guests keep mentioning the doughnuts and the house-made bread. It suits everyone, families included, and an hour or two here is an easy way to start a grey day well.
Keen on a local drop? Burleigh Brewing taphouse
The Burleigh Brewing taphouse at 2 Ern Harley Drive is about seven minutes inland by car, tucked into the light-industrial pocket off Reedy Creek Road. The taproom is a big indoor hall pouring the beers brewed on site, from the flagship Bighead no-carb lager to seasonal small-batch releases. It opens Friday from 3pm to 9pm, Saturday from noon to 9pm and Sunday from noon to 6pm. There is usually a food truck parked up and space for a relaxed afternoon. Budget for a tasting paddle and a snack, and know it is best for adults and older kids.
Is the cinema the classic wet-day move? Event Cinemas Robina
When the rain really sets in, the pictures are the move. Event Cinemas at Robina Town Centre is about a fifteen minute drive west, and the whole centre is undercover with a large sheltered car park, so you can go from car to seat without a drop landing on you. Sessions run from mid-morning to late, there are recliner Gold Class options if you want to make an event of it, and the shops and food court are right there for before and after. It is the easy all-ages call, and you can happily fill three or four hours here.
Want something cultural and free? HOTA Gallery
A little further afield, HOTA at 135 Bundall Road is roughly fifteen to eighteen minutes north and home to the largest public gallery outside a capital city in Australia. The gallery spans several indoor levels, entry to the collection is free, and the rooftop bar looks back over the water. Give yourself an hour or two to wander the exhibitions, then grab a coffee or a wine before the drive home. It suits couples, solo wanderers and older kids, and it is a genuinely good use of a washed-out afternoon.

What is there to do in Burleigh Heads when it rains?
Plenty stays dry and open. Within a short drive of The Village you have the undercover Burleigh Bazaar and Miami Marketta food markets, the Burleigh Brewing taphouse, Paddock Bakery for a long breakfast, Event Cinemas at Robina and the free HOTA gallery. None of them need blue sky to be a good afternoon.
Are the Gold Coast food markets undercover if it rains?
Yes. Burleigh Bazaar sits inside a refurbished warehouse and Miami Marketta is a covered laneway with all seating under roof, so both run in the wet. Guests keep mentioning how well they work as a rainy-night plan when the beach is out.
Is there parking out of the rain near these spots?
Mostly, yes. Robina Town Centre has large undercover car parks right by the cinema, HOTA has its own car park, and the markets and brewery have on-site or street parking a short dash from the door. Bring a brolly for the last few metres and you will barely get wet.
Are these places good for kids on a wet day?
Several are. Miami Marketta and Burleigh Bazaar both have kids in mind with space to move and easy food, Paddock Bakery is relaxed and family-friendly, and the cinema is the classic wet-afternoon fix. The brewery and gallery suit older kids and adults best.

A wet day is really just a different kind of Burleigh day, and having the plan sorted before you set out is half the battle.
